less the hour worth of time

how a person's work is paid is important, not just because of status or sense of self-worth, but for the simple facts of food clothing shelter culture.

culture is a new add on but it is as necessary as the other three, and far less ephemeral than it seems.

the core experience of being a human is not merely the functioning and safety of its parts, but that of a consciousness.

created symbols, the connections between self and others and their adopted or inherited symbols...these things give direction and meaning and form to our daily lives, the living of them and the objects we choose to make useful in that living.

and something innate : the tangible ownership of things has a preciously rare web of being...

paying five dollars, even below minimum wage...
